Description

I am starting to get rid of some of my older childhood toys. This is a vintage Dinky Diecast 690 Scorpion with the revolving gun turret. My Dinky 691 Striker is in another auction.

This auction is for a Dinky Toys Original Diecast 690 - Scorpion light reconaissance tank equipped with a gun and revolving turret. Because these tanks was a sort of lookout there is a  camouflage net included. Once they spotted the enemy from their camouflaged position, they would call in the 691 to fire missles. There is a spring loaded device designed to fire a single Sabot from the gun. The original Sabot is long gone and the spring loaded device only will work manually, and again I used wooden matches to load the spring to make this work.  This vintage piece has a Black underside and is in very good condition for its age. The 2 Antennas are also missing and can be purchased on ebay.
The primary difference between the Dinky Toys Alvis Scorpion (No. 690) and the Dinky Toys Alvis Striker (No. 691) lies in their turret configuration, as both models are based on the British CVR(T) armored vehicle family produced by Alvis.
The Scorpion is a light reconnaissance tank equipped with a gun and revolving turret, while the Striker is an anti tank missile vehice equipped with a launcher

A Dinky Alvis tank is a vintage 1:43 scale diecast metal toy, These toys were produced by Meccano Ltd. in England. The models, commonly the Alvis Striker (No. 691) or Scorpion (No. 690), feature working rubber tracks, rotating turrets, and sometimes firing rocket mechanisms.
The difference between a Dinky toy tank with a black underside and one with a brown (or brown-orange/khaki) underside generally indicates a variation in production dates. Rather than a difference in the vehicle type itself. The
Brown/Tan Underside vehicles are often found on older, earlier versions, such as those made in the late 1960s or early 70s.While the black underside represents a later production date from the mid 70s.
