Rare and highly collectible 2-page Autograph Letter Signed (ALS) by legendary soprano Maggie Teyte, dated July 1st, 1962, on her personal Hamilton Terrace stationery. This letter contains exceptional musical content regarding her direct professional relationship with Claude Debussy. Writing to music critic Peter Jacobi, Teyte reflects on her nine months studying the role of Mélisande with the composer, mentioning his private nature and his interactions with assistant-conductor André Caplet. Most notably, she provides a poetic postscript regarding the "musical gauze" of the Pelléas score and the importance of Maurice Maeterlinck.

The letter is in excellent condition with bold, legible handwriting in fountain pen ink. This is a premier association piece for collectors of 20th-century opera, French Impressionism, or Debussy scholars.
