Acquired from an estate. Not much experience with this timepiece but will provide the best information and detail we have.
Waltham 18s Appleton Tracy Pocket Watch; Open-Face, Model 1883 movement serial #7822708 production date 1896 with 17 jewels, Full plate, adjusted, pendant wind and set. Crystal shows its' age as there are numerous scuffs and scratches, more noticeable depending at what angle you hold the watch. Dial appears pretty much issue-free and hands are very attractive as well. Movement comes in a very nice Fahys Coin Silver Watch Case #R3005. Case also shows a Pat. date of Feb 19 1884. Both front and back covers screw on/off easily, and both close tightly. Little cleaning and polishing would likely increase the eye appeal even more but certainly very appealing as it currently sits. This is a heavy pocket watch. Total weight as shown is ~164.51 grams. For additional detail; back cover removed weighs ~19.83 grams, front cover with crystal weighs 27.48 grams.
Watch is in running condition as follows. Upon pulling from inventory and handling for first time, watch was set and wound. Setting time was easy as was winding the watch, however it seems to slip while winding so would need some type of adjustment or repair. We were able to wind it 15 turns, not necessarily its' limit. We had to gently tap and shake the watch to get it started. Even with that, for a short time, it would stop, we'd tap, it would run and hesitate every now and then. It did however, run continuously from that point for 12 hours. It does run slow, losing anywhere from 5-6 minutes per hour. We followed this same procedure a second time and it pretty much started / stopped / performed the same as the first time, but did run for ~14 hours, losing similar amount of time as noted above. For perspective, this watch had stopped well before we began this listing. Upon simply picking up the watch, it began to run and has continued now for about 25 minutes. This pocket watch has been in storage for a very long time so very likely needs a good cleaning, lube, and/or other maintenance for better or peak performance.
