In 2017, the Russian Air Force employed Mi-24P Hind gunships extensively during its intervention in Syria. Operating from Hmeimim Air Base and forward positions, these heavily armed helicopters provided close air support to Syrian Army units battling ISIS and rebel factions. The Mi-24P, with its fixed GSh-30-2K 30mm cannon and rocket pods, was ideal for striking fortified positions and vehicle convoys. Crews flew low and fast to evade MANPADS, often escorted by Mi-35M and Ka-52 helicopters.
