Judi Harvest

(American)

Signed and dated “Harvest 1986” in ink inside the lid, this small mixed-media curiosity box reads like a pocket museum: a black presentation case with inlaid dot studs and brass ball feet, opening to a worn blue-green textile interior that cradles four miniature glass bottles decorated with gilt stars and paper labels (including “PARIS” and museum/confectionery ephemera). Part reliquary, part travel-souvenir archive, it’s an intimate 1980s assemblage that turns ordinary keepsakes into a staged vignette—an object-poem about collecting, memory, and display.

Judi Harvest — Mixed Media Sculptural Box, 1986

Original mixed-media art object by Judi Harvest, dated 1986, presented as a black studded reliquary-style box containing four hand-assembled glass specimen bottles.

The interior features labeled compartments referencing cultural and institutional spaces including ParisEgyptian MuseumMuseo di Storia Naturale, and Confetteria, suggesting themes of collection, memory, taxonomy, and travel. Each glass bottle is decorated with gilt star motifs and sealed within a velvet-lined interior.

The exterior is constructed in blackened wood or composite, studded with round brass and bone-tone inlays, raised on small brass feet. A handwritten inscription and date are visible inside the lid, confirming authorship and year.

This is a one-of-a-kind artwork, not a decorative reproduction.
