Introduction
Aponogeton crispus is a medicinal aquatic plant that cools and
soothes the skin and enhances beauty. It is found in water-logged areas of Sri
Lanka and India and is known by the names Kashuru, Sara, Vatha Kusum
Shukaresatha etc. Aponogeton crispus is the better known species and Wikipedia
introduces it as a plant endemic to Sri Lanka. Three species have been
identified in this country and the recently discovered endemic species from the
Suriyakanda area has been named after Kannangara Shureen, the father of education
in this country. (Aponogeton kannangara)
The stem of the kekatiya plant, which grows in water and rises
according to the depth of the water, has a curved inflorescence and is
purple-white in color. It is nutritious.
It is said to contain 17% protein, 63% starch, and 6% fiber. The
flower stalks of the plant are cooked as porridge and eaten as a curry in
coconut oil. The tubers are boiled and eaten with coconut. This way, the
beneficial properties of the plant can be obtained by the body.
Health Benefits
All parts of the plant are used for medicine. The cooling and
cooling properties of the plant, which calms bile and increases phlegm, act
against heat-related diseases. It relieves acid reflux, hemorrhoids, urinary
tract infections, and stomach and intestinal tract inflammation.

jaundice. Drink kekatiya and flower porridge for breast milk growth. Boil
kekatiya tubers and eat them with coconut to increase strength and power. Grind
the tubers with coconut oil to remove blemishes. For acid reflux, boil the
plant and drink the water. Drink porridge. For hemorrhoids, cook the plant with
the medicinal leaves of the plant, Anoda, and Red Karal Sabo and eat it. Heat
the juice of the plant, red onion, and gotu kola, mix it with half a teaspoon
of vegetable oil and drink it. For vomiting, drink the water of boiled potatoes
mixed with honey and rice bran.
