This assembly consists of four parts.A small stainless-steel spring is also included as part of the assembly.
The button cap and assembly housing are printed in a matte black color.
These two parts can be finish sanded and painted chrome if the user wants to color match the chrome appearance of the original Lincoln part.
If you'd like for the parts of the assembly to be left loose such that finish painting is easier.
The original part is not included in this listing. A photo of the installed part is also included to see the final look with the selector handle.
At this time, I believe the Ford replacement part is discontinued and cannot be found.
To use this part, you must remove the original selector handle release button assembly from the gear selector.
Carefully pry the assembly out using your fingers or a small non-scuff pry tool.
Once removed, you'll notice the chrome plated metal piece of the gear selector (has a For Lincoln logo on it) will slightly.
Keep this metal piece loosely in place. This metal piece is connected inside of the gear selector with a stiff spring.
Inspect the inside of the gear selector for any loose or broken pieces.
It's common that the inside portion of the button assembly (part you're replacing) has broken up into several small pieces since the old plastic
becomes brittle and disintegrates. Small pieces of this old plastic can become stuck inside the gear selector.
After confirming everything is in working order inside the gear selector handle, insert the new button assembly
while pressing the chrome metal piece down on the handle. The new button assembly should easily snap into place.
Test out the new part by inserting the key and turning it to ACC or ON such that the gear selector will unlock.
Check the functionally of the button and selector handle before operating the vehicle. Install and use this part at your own risk.
