GRADING:
Newspapers are given a bit more leeway than comics especially when well over 75 years old. 

In other words, some discoloration as described is expected.
Edge Fray defined: (papers are often saw-tooth cut not fray) fray is a series of minuscule tears, nips, etc. along the edge.
Very minor "soft" spine roll edge creases are acceptable for all grades.
Edge tears are more acceptable as described below.
Minor stains and/or watermarks can lower the grade by 1/2 to 1 grade.
Larger stains lower the grade by at least 1 grade.

Grading for Newspapers over 75 Years Old:
Mint (M): 
    I rarely grade something as all out mint because...
    No defects what-so-ever does not really exist as someone will always find "something."
    Pages should be bright and fairly white.
    Papers over 50 years old can have some extremely light even discoloration
    Papers over 75 years old will typically have some very light even buff yellowing.
    There are no creases what-so-ever although a gentle center fold-over curve is acceptable.
    Pages should have no tears and the edges sharp.
Near Mint (NM): 
    Pages should be complete and not be missing any pieces.
    No notable tears... a few edge tears less than 1/4" or two no more than 1/2" ok but not fraying.
    The edges should be fairly clean and sharp overall.
    Paper should fairly supple, bright, but can have a very light even buff-like yellowing.
    Overall the pages should be flat - a Fold-over at the center is acceptable though it should not be sharp.
    It should not have any long sharp creases though 2 or 3 short pressure creases are typically acceptable.
Extra Fine (XF):
    Pages should be complete and not be missing any pieces.
    No notable tears (no more than 10 less than 1/4", four less than 1/2", two up to 1", or one 2" are ok but no fraying).  
    The edges should be fairly clean and sharp.
    Paper should fairly supple, bright, and can have very light even buff-like yellowing to moderately light yellowing.
    Overall the pages should be flat - a Fold-over at the center is acceptable though it should not be sharp.
    It should not have any long sharp creases though a few short pressure creases are typically acceptable.
Very Fine (VF):
    Should meet the XF grading with no more than two F grade defects.
Fine (F):
    Pages should be complete, though 1 or 2 very small <1/4" edge pieces missing are generally acceptable.
    No notable tears (up to 4 edge tears less than 1" or up to 2 at 2" are ok but no excessive fraying).  

    The edges should be fairly clean and sharp.

    A small handful of 1/4" edge tears are acceptable as long as it does not qualify as fraying.
    Paper should fairly supple, bright, and can have very light even buff-like yellowing to moderately light yellowing.
    Overall the pages should be flat - a Fold-over at the center is acceptable though it should not be sharp.
    It should not have any long sharp creases though a few short pressure creases are typically acceptable.
Near Fine (NF):
    Generally the same as fine, but...
    Paper should fairly supple, bright, and can have very light even buff-like yellowing to moderate yellowing.
    A center fold-over crease is generally acceptable but not sharp.
    There can be up to 4 edge tears not exceeding 1.5" or up to 2 less than 2" but no edge fraying.
Very Good (VG of VGC):
    Pages should be complete, though 3 to 5 very small <1/4" edge pieces missing are generally acceptable.
    Up to 4 short edge tears less than 2" are ok.

    Other defects should not exceed upper grades.
    The edges should be fairly clean and sharp though a tiny bit of fraying is acceptable.
    Paper should fairly supple, bright, and can have an even moderately light yellowing that is slightly darker at the edges.
    Overall the pages should be flat - a Fold-over crease is acceptable.
    It should not have any other long sharp creases though short pressure creases are typically acceptable.
Good (G):
    Pages should be fairly complete and not be missing any pieces in excess of one at 1 x 4 inches.
    Up to 4 short edge tears less than 3" are ok.  
    A moderate amount of edge fraying is acceptable.
    Paper should fairly supple, moderately yellowing to slightly darker is acceptable (not brown).
    Up to 3 Fold-over creases from mailers are acceptable.
    It can have 2 to 3 other creases as well as pressure creases.
    NOTE: only a single defect in excess of criteria can rise a paper to this grade.

FRAMING FOR DISPLAY TIP:
A UV protective grade plexiglass cover is suggested to prevent further discoloration.
