DESCRIPTION

When the north wind rises and the landscapes take on their winter hues, the Dale of Norway Spirit Jacket becomes your best ally. This luxurious jacket is crafted from 100% skin soft Merino wool in a durable double-knit construction, making it perfect for an active lifestyle while ensuring exceptional comfort. Merino wool is not only as soft as a cloud but also naturally breathable, regulates your body temperature, and resists odors, wrapping you in a comforting cocoon whether you are hiking through forests or enjoying a coffee break in the city. The jacket's meticulous finishes and durability will ensure it accompanies you, season after season, for all your outdoor adventures.

The design itself holds a special significance as the official team jacket for the Norwegian Alpine Ski Team for the 2021/22 season, taking its cues directly from the official Norwegian team sweater for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This garment is a tribute to Norwegian Olympic history, featuring a sophisticated fusion of Chinese and Norwegian traditions. The star pattern on the chest originates from the classic Norwegian eight-petal rose, but it has been sharpened and crystallized with inspiration from Chinese paper folding (called zhezhi) and Asian cartoons.

Beyond its heritage and premium material, the jacket is packed with functional and stylish details. It features a convenient two-way front zipperpadded flag-colored stripes on the shoulders, and elbow padding that offers a nostalgic nod to alpine sweaters from the 1970s.

For a subtle touch of national pride, padded letters spelling "NORWAY" are discretely knitted into the back, only fully revealed when the light casts shadows (To glimpse this detail, zoom in on the fourth photo, where the letters "RWA" out of "NORWAY" are partially visible).

Don't let the cold hold you back; the Spirit Jacket is the promise of a warm winter without compromising on comfort or elegant Norwegian tradition.

SPECIFICATION

(1) Brand: Dale of Norway (Norwegian Brand)

(2) Gender: Women

(3) Size: Small (S)  [Shop Other Sizes: We also carry this sweater jacket in Medium. Please view our other items to find the listing.]

Based on the Dale of Norway Women's Size Chart, a Women's Size S corresponds to a US Women's Size 4 - 6 and is designed to fit a body chest circumference of approximately 35 inches.

Please note that fit preferences can vary; some prefer a more relaxed fit, while others opt for a snugger feel. We recommend considering your personal fit preference when making a selection.

Important Sizing Note: Please compare the actual garment measurements (in the section of Garment Measurements below) to a sweater you own to ensure the perfect fit, as sizing can vary significantly between brands.

(4) Fit: Athletic Fit

This jacket features a contoured, slim fit designed to sit close to the body. While the "Spirit" style is constructed to allow for light layering, the silhouette is more athletic than a traditional boxy sweater.

  • Size Note: The actual garment circumference is approximately 1 to 1.5 inches smaller than the "target" body chest size. This is intentional for this design, utilizing the natural elasticity of the 14-gauge double-knit Merino wool to provide a sleek, performance-oriented fit without restricting movement.
  • Layering: Best suited over a thin base layer or technical t-shirt. If you prefer a loose or "roomy" feel, we recommend comparing the measurements below closely to a jacket you already own.

(5) Style: OL Spirit Jacket

In the context of the "Dale Of Norway OL Spirit Sweater Jacket," OL stands for Olympic Games in Norwegian, which is "Olympiske Leker." Dale of Norway has a long history of designing the official sweaters for the Norwegian national ski teams for the Winter Olympics. The "OL Spirit" sweater was Norway's official Olympic team sweater for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

(6) Colorway: NavyOff-white, and Raspberry

(7) Zipper: Full-zip sweater jacket

(8) Knit Construction: The Dale of Norway Spirit Sweater Jacket utilizes an advanced and durable double-knit construction that's ideal for an active lifestyle, while also providing a comfortable fit with a bit of stretch. This jacket is crafted using a fine 1-ply yarn and a 14-gauge knit construction.

  • 1-ply: This refers to the yarn used to make the fabric. It means a single strand of fiber was spun together to create a smooth, lightweight yarn. This construction is key to giving the jacket a luxurious, softer drape and an overall lighter feel compared to multi-ply fabrics.
  • 14-Gauge: This is the measure of the tightness and density of the knit. Gauge is the number of stitches per inch. A 14-gauge is considered a fine-to-medium gauge for machine knitting (higher numbers denote finer knits). This level of density results in a fabric that is fine, smooth, and lightweight, providing a high-quality, non-bulky garment perfect for both layering and standalone wear. This fine construction ensures the intricate patterns and detailing of the Olympic design are rendered with crisp, luxurious definition.

(9) Sleeve Style: The sweater features Raglan sleeves, a design where the sleeve extends in one solid piece all the way to the collar, leaving a diagonal seam from the underarm to the collarbone. Unlike a traditional set-in sleeve that sits on the edge of the shoulder, the raglan construction eliminates the shoulder seam entirely.

This "athlete fit" construction offers several key benefits:

  • Enhanced Range of Motion: Because there is no restrictive seam at the natural shoulder point, the raglan style allows for total freedom of movement. This makes it ideal for active pursuits like skiing, hiking, or even just layering comfortably under a heavy winter coat.
  • Versatile Shoulder Fit: The lack of a fixed shoulder seam allows the fabric to drape naturally over the body, accommodating different shoulder widths and shapes for a clean, tailored look regardless of your build.

  • Reduced Friction & Bulk: By moving the seams away from the high-rub area of the shoulder, this style reduces potential irritation when wearing a backpack or additional outer layers, further enhancing the sweater’s "low-bulk" appeal.

(10) Weight: 14.8 oz / 420 grams

(11) Country of Origin: Made in Norway

(12) Adjustable Collar: The adjustable collar allows for versatile styling and temperature control. Zip it up to create a cozy turtleneck for maximum warmth, or unzip and lay it flat to cool down. For a more dynamic look, you can also partially zip it and fold the collar in different ways to create a unique, personalized fit for any condition such as raising the back of the collar while leaving the front open.

(13) Material: Made from 100% skin-soft Merino wool, this sweater is designed for maximum comfort for the skin. The exceptionally fine fibers, with a diameter of 20.5 microns, feel soft, luxurious, and non-itchy.

For Context (Wool Micron Scale)

  • Ultrafine Merino: 15-18.5 microns (often used for luxury next-to-skin garments)
  • Fine Merino: 18.5-20.5 microns (soft, next-to-skin comfort) â€” see (13) above
  • Medium Wool: 24-28 microns (ideal for outerwear, durable sweaters, and mid-layers)

  • Coarse Wool: 30+ microns (used for extremely durable garments such as traditional Norwegian sweaters, heavy-duty utility blankets such as military blankets, and carpets)

How to Make Your Sweater Last a Lifetime

A key factor in taking proper care of your wool garment is to wash it correctly. And equally important: Since wool garments can be refreshed simply by hanging in fresh air, they require less washing than other garments. Fewer washing cycles provides for a longer lifespan for your garment.
