Ajuga Geneva Bugleweed Ajuga Genevensis a herbaceous flowering plant native to Europe. Unlike the more typical ground covering selections of Bugleweed such as Ajuga Reptans, this species is grown more as a clumping edging plant, without the same tendency to spread by runners. Ajuga Geneva Bugleweed seeds can be started indoors or directly outdoors in fall or spring after last frost. Other common names of this plant are Upright Bugle, Blue Bugle, and Blue Bugleweed, Ajuga Genevensis produces clumps of attractive foliage with long-stalked, basal green leaves which are shallowly lobed or toothed, and the upright stems with showy violet-blue flowers that are arranged in dense, terminal, spike-like inflorescences. Large and showy Blue Bugle flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Ajuga Geneva Bugleweed makes a wonderful evergreen flowering groundcover plant adding color and texture to the shade garden, or it can be a great addition to containers for all year around display. Ajuga is popular as part of a front-of-the-border scheme, in rock gardens and woodlands. If started indoors, Ajuga Genevensis seeds should be cold stratified, or it can be accomplished naturally by sowing the seed directly outdoors in the desired location in early September. Once established Ajuga Geneva Bugleweed thrives in partial shade and moist soil with good drainage growing rapidly even in poor, heavy soils and tolerating moderately dry areas and more sun than other Ajuga species.
