This is an original hand-colored photograph by Wallace Nutting, one of the most admired American photographers of the early 20th century (active circa 1900–1930). Nutting was renowned for his idyllic landscape scenes, which he meticulously hand-colored to create a soft, painterly effect. Lake shoreline with Birches—like this piece—were among his most popular subjects.

There is mild water staining on the mat, both top and bottom, and one spot on matting. All are seen it pictures. The frame is simple and in excellent original condition with one minor chip considering its old age.
