The Pentax 6×7 MLU is a professional medium format SLR designed around the 6×7 cm film format, delivering a large image area suitable for high-resolution work and tonal depth. It uses the Pentax 67 lens mount, supporting a broad system of interchangeable Takumar and SMC Pentax 67 lenses, including fast normal and telephoto optics optimized for the larger format.
The camera employs a mechanical focal-plane shutter with speeds from 1s to 1/1000s plus Bulb, synchronizable via X-sync at 1/30s. A dedicated Mirror Lock-Up (MLU) mechanism is integrated to minimize vibration during long exposures or critical tripod-based shooting. Metering is achieved through an optional TTL prism finder, offering center-weighted TTL exposure measurement without affecting mechanical operation.
Operation is fully manual, with through-the-lens viewing via an interchangeable prism or waist-level finder system. Film advance is motorized via an integrated electric film transport, ensuring consistent frame spacing across 10 exposures per roll of 120 film. The body construction emphasizes robustness, with a metal chassis and precision mechanical components, making the Pentax 6×7 MLU a technically oriented platform focused on optical performance, mechanical reliability, and system modularity.
