This is an original hand-colored photograph by Wallace Nutting, one of the most admired American photographers of the early 20th century (active circa 1900–1930). Nutting was renowned for his idyllic landscape scenes, which he meticulously hand-colored to create a soft, painterly effect. Summer landscapes and birch trees—like this piece—were among his most popular subjects.

The photograph itself measures approx. 3" wide x 4" high and is signed in ink W Nutting, adding to its authenticity and collector appeal. The overall measurement in frame is 9.5” high x 7.5” wide. Nutting’s hand-colored works are highly valued by Americana enthusiasts and early photography collectors for their artistic quality, historical significance, and nostalgic depiction of rural American life during a rapidly changing era.

There is NO staining on the mat and the frame is in excellent original condition considering its 115 year old age.

Any shadowing is the result of lighting and not staining issues.

Notice the original hook at the top of frame with the words “Hampden PAT. 7-27-1915”.

A beautiful and collectible example of early American pictorial photography.
