The
History of ... Panerai.... is the most famous Italian watch company.
But keep in mind, Panerai is now produced in Switzerland, not Italy.
Originally founded in Florence in the 1860’s, this “watch workshop”
was commissioned by the Italian Navy to produce a watch that could be
easily read underwater. The early prototype was actually fitted with
Rolex parts. Giovanni Panerai and his family had no idea, back in
1860, just how significant the Panerai watch company would become a
century and a half later. Panerai started his business by producing
measurement and precision systems for the Italian Navy, which gradually
lead to an affinity for watchmaking and other precision instruments.
The company continued to develop in parallel with the Italian Navy,
and the commandos were equipped with wristwatches produced by Panerai.
In 1930, Panerai watches were well known in the Italian military and
the company had an exclusive contract with the Navy to produce their
watches and aiming sites for various types of weaponry. The ruggedness
and durability of the Panerai watches is still symbolic today, and
the company only started producing wristwatches for the general public
in 1993...
The featured
watch is a Swiss made Panerai Luminor GMT 44 “Tuxedo” dial PAM00029
two part--body, polished and brushed, cushion-shaped Stainless Steel
case measuring 44mm diameter. Special graduated Stainless steel bezel
engraved with the 24-hour time zone scale for the second time-zone,
straight lugs, Automatic movement, power reserve up to ± 42 hours.
Displays a Black striped Tuxedo, vertical decoration dial with
luminous indexes and Arabic numerals at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock hour
markers, luminescent skeletonized steel baton hands, arrow black hand
for the second time zone at center, minute track at outer rim. .
Cyclops lens over date aperture, at 3 o'clock, GMT (second time zone),
sweep centre seconds, Panerai patented crown protector with security
lever to wind the watch even under water. Domed Scratch resistant
Sapphire crystal, screwed-down solid caseback engraved. Black Rubber
plus a Brown leather strap fasten by a stainless steel Tang Buckle.
Water resistant to 300m/1000ft. Display signed " Panerai ", Caseback
inscribed & numbered, Movement signed & concealed...

minutes, seconds. Date, GMT (second time zone), Automatic self-wing

a 44mm stainless steel watch that can display a second time zone using
an additional 24-hour hand and a bezel with a 24-hour scale. Its
technical specifications include an automatic mechanical movement (often
a modified ETA ) with a 42-hour power reserve, a "tuxedo" dial, and a
date display at the 3 o'clock position. The OP 6505 is the reference
code for this model, and "PAM00029" is its model number...
