The Opcode Studio 5 was a vintage Macintosh-based MIDI interface and patchbay that also served as a SMPTE-to-MIDI time code converter and processor. It featured numerous MIDI ports for connecting multiple devices, a built-in microprocessor for processing MIDI data in "Studio Patches," and a built-in SMPTE time code generator and converter for syncing audio and MIDI equipment. It allowed for complex, programmable routing and processing of MIDI signals, even without a computer.
