Description

You are looking at a gorgeous 1934 $5 Federal Reserve Note from the ever popular Dallas district.  This note is the micro/macro Mule variety, which is found with a macro-size backplate (BP #939 and higher).  The Friedberg number is Fr. 1956-Km, and the signatures are Julian-Morgenthau.  The serial number is K24511242A (K-A block).

This note has been certified by PCGS Banknote as Gem Uncircualted (Gem) 65 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality).  This note has fantastic color, great margins, and nice embossing on the reverse.  Only the top and bottom margins keep it from a higher grade.

PCGS Banknote has only ever graded two examples, this 65PPQ and a 66PPQ (that is also going to be listed on eBay), making it a TOP POP 1/1 at PCGS Banknote--none equal, and one higher.  PMG has graded a total of 32 Dallas Mules, the second lowest pop report count, falling behind only the San Francisco district Mules, with just 23.  This is a tougher note to find in Gem grades.

The best part about this note is that PCGS Banknote has awarded it the PPQ designation!  From the PCGS Banknote website:  Banknotes must have premium paper quality (PPQ) to be graded Gem (65 through 70). Therefore, banknotes in Gem grade ranges will always receive PPQ designation. If a banknote would otherwise grade Gem based on full margins and pleasing centering but has a minor issue that does not warrant a comment on the label such as “pinhole,” “slight margin tear,” “ink mark,” “foxing,” “intaglio print that is flat,” etc., it cannot grade as Gem and the maximum grade possible is 64.

A banknote without minor issues is not PPQ by default. It must retain enough originality expected at that grade. Intaglio-printed banknotes must have a fair amount of design and/or overprint embossing remaining; lithographed and other banknotes must retain enough strength in the inks expected for that grade level. PPQ designation is a separate designation to the grade and can be attained for notes graded Very Good through Gem.

Don't fall for the "Super High Grade", "Killer Grade", or "Awesome Grade" uncertified notes being sold on eBay today. You never know what you are going to get with an uncertified (raw) note and what potentially has been done to the note in the past to enhance it's appearance or hide issues that will bring down the grade and the note's value.  Pick this note up in a certified TPG (Third-Party Grader) holder and ensure you're purchasing a note worthy of your investment and without hidden issues!

About Us

I am a lover and collector, not a dealer, of US coins and currency, specifically coins from the 19th century and the early days of small currency.  I believe in being fair and honest in all of my dealings on Ebay both as a seller and buyer. I strive to supply photos (and videos where applicable) that fairly and honestly show the true condition and overall appearance of my coins and currency that I sell. I do not modify my photos to enhance the appearance or hide any potential flaws in the condition of the coins and currency. In most cases, I will offer multiple photos of each item from different angles to try and capture the complete appearance of the coin and currency. As a collector myself who purchases currency on Ebay, I know what it's like to receive a note that was misrepresented through various methods and either get stuck with it or have to go through the return process and paying the cost of shipping (most times both ways), and strive to avoid that for you here!
