100% Authentic official product from Japan

Only an English book can help your HENRO journey. This book condenses a vast amount of the latest information through extensive document research and fieldwork. It contains the most useful information for walking pilgrims, including details on food, lodging, distances, and many practical tips. With this book, you can complete the walking pilgrimage.

This book aims to introduce the Shikoku pilgrimage (HENRO) to a worldwide audience. The Shikoku pilgrimage includes 88 “official” temples and numerous other sacred sites where Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) is believed to have trained or spent time during the 9th century. The entire route spans approximately 1,140 kilometers, offering the chance to experience Shikoku’s abundant natural beauty and interact with local people along the way.

This pilgrimage provides an opportunity to reflect on life and grow personally. Do not worry too much—just take the first step. As you travel, you will have time to reflect on yourself and gain meaningful experiences. Today, it is increasingly rediscovered as a healing journey. This book is written with the level of detail that Japanese pilgrims highly value.

About the Author:
This book is an English translation of Walking Henro's Bible, written by the late Mr. Tateki Miyazaki (1935–2010). During Japan’s post-WW2 economic growth, the HENRO trail fell into disrepair, and Mr. Miyazaki took it upon himself to restore the traditional route. Without any commercial motive, he cleared overgrown paths and installed numerous red path markers and signposts. Thanks to his efforts, today’s pilgrims can safely plan and walk the HENRO trail.

I received permission from Mr. Miyazaki to translate his work and carry on his vision. I have added ideas, information, and original research from my own experience and dedication.
