1909-12 PX7 Sweet Caporal Baseball Domino Discs Rube Marquard NY Giants Pin Coin

Domino Discs, distributed by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes  from 1909 to 1912, are among the more obscure 20th Century  same players - some even pictured in the same poses - as the  later Sweet Caporal pin set, the discs have always lagged be hind the pins in collector appeal. The Domino Discs, so called  because each disc has a large, white domino printed on the  back, measure approximately 1-1/8" in diameter and are made  of thin cardboard surrounded by a metal rim. The fronts of the  discs contain a player portrait set against a background of  either red, green or blue. The words “Sweet Caporal Cigarettes” appear on the front along with the player’s last name  and team. There are 129 different major leaguers featured in  the set. Each player can be found with two picture variations  involving uniform or cap details, or just the size of the portrait.  Also known to exist as part of the set is a disc which pictures  a generic player and contains the words “Home Team” against  a red background on one side and “Visiting Team” with a green  background on the reverse. Because each of the players can theoretically be found in two pictures, with three different  background colors and with varying numbers of dots on the  dominoes, there is almost an impossible number of variations  available. Collectors, however, generally collect the discs with out regard to background color or domino arrangement. The  Domino Disc set was assigned the designation PX7 in the  American Card Catalog.
