About the author / work: Claus Caspari (1911?1980) was a distinguished German illustrator and watercolorist renowned for his scientifically precise and aesthetically captivating depictions of plants, animals, fungi, and minerals. His work is celebrated for harmoniously blending artistic expression with meticulous scientific accuracy.

Caspari developed a distinctive "dry watercolor" technique, enabling him to produce thousands of detailed illustrations, primarily for publishers and scientific journals. His works often required approval from academic experts to ensure scientific accuracy. Notably, he collaborated extensively with the Kronen-Verlag between 1952 and 1974, creating illustrations of mushrooms, minerals, fish, insects, minerals and orchids.

Claus Caspari's legacy endures through his son, Stefan Caspari, a photographer and artist who continues the family's naturalistic artistic tradition. Claus Caspari's illustrations remain esteemed for their blend of artistic beauty and scientific precision, securing his place among the notable botanical artists of the 20th century.
