About Bjorn Weckström
Björn Weckström, born in Helsinki, Finland on February 8, 1935, is a goldsmith, sculptor and jewelry maker. Inspired by the nature and landscape of his native Finland, Weckström's jewelry and sculpture is characterized by its highly geometric, abstracted shapes and form.
Probably the best-known piece of Weckström’s jewelry is the necklace "Planetoid Valleys" which Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) wore in George Lucas’ film Star Wars in 1977.
For Nuutajärvi glass factory Weckström designed, inter alia, glassware series “Kanerva” and “Fortuna” and produced dozens of unique glassworks together with factory’s glassblowers.
Weckström was awarded The Finland Prize in 2024 and named Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland in 2023.
