Crossing the Oi River was part of the coastal road (Tokaido) from Edo to Kyoto. There were no bridges so as to make it difficult to move an army. At certain times in a flood it wasn’t possible to cross. Most people walked across themselves but the wealthy were carried individually or on/in palanquins. Each: 14.25 x 10 inches (print). 18.25 x 25 inches archivally framed.
Fair condition. Light fading, wrinkling and soiling. Upper right corner on right print is dog-eared. Archivally (lightly) mounted. See images.
