This is a pair of Kutaniyaki mugs featuring hand-painted traditional Japanese designs from the "cute flowers" series, including Hydrangea and Yoshidaya Kachōzu (bird and flower motif). Among 42 patterns, these two colors were paired to beautifully complement each other.
Each mug features backside artwork ("ura-e") allowing you to enjoy the design even when drying them upside down after use. The Hydrangea flowers are decorated with a special "sprinkling" technique using a tea strainer-like tool for a unique textured effect. The Yoshidaya bird and flower design is applied with a transfer print, and the yellow parts are hand-painted with raised brush strokes, giving an oil-painting-like thickness. A hidden heart motif is incorporated within the design.
These mugs are versatile and suitable for tea, coffee, and other beverages. Made of warm-textured ceramic with excellent heat retention, they provide a stable feel with a comfortable weight of around 210 grams.
The base of each mug is treated with a smooth, non-rough finish — an industry first — protecting your table from scratches. The underglaze colors are Purple Blue for the Yellow Ume and Bird mug, and Green for the Hydrangea mug.
