A native of Carmel, California, Michael Peter Aldrete was selected in Round 7 of the 1983 Major League Amateur Draft by the San Francisco Giants, reaching the Major Leagues with that team in 1986. He subsequently played in the Major Leagues for the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, California Angels and New York Yankees. 

Aldrete has coached in the Major Leagues for the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, St. Louis Cardinals and Oakland Athletics, and is currently Oakland's Hitting Coach.
