A native of Santo Domingo Este in the Dominican Republic, Sergio Junior Alcantara was selected as an undrafted free agent in 2012 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He subsequently played in the Major Leagues for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.
