This is a clean, vintage, New Old Stock Schwinn Airdyne AD3 speedometer drive by Huret, Schwinn part number 90 828, an Original Equipment service replacement part made by Huret of France and datestamped on the 19th week of 1985.

These OEM replacement Airdyne hubs from the factory had a nylon plug in the threaded hole where a grease fitting had been installed in previous years. I have replaced the nylon plug on this hub with a correct original Huret M5 grease fitting to enable future lubing with a standard grease gun.

This is not for earlier Schwinn XR4 through XR8 Exercisers, which use a drive hub similar to this one but stamped for a 20" wheel. This is for those models of Schwinn exercise equipment which use this Huret drive hub to operate a large, round Stewart-Warner speedometer or Load Indicator.

Important installation notes: Please match the markings on this one (see Photo 3) to your old unit before bidding. This is a Type G (clockwise output) drive with an output ratio of 1:2.6 (stamped in French notation as "2,6"). This unit is not the same as hubs stamped with either 20" or 26" on the side. This hub uses a high output gear ratio that is specific to Airdynes and required for a correct reading.

This drive is compatible with the large, round, plastic-bodied Stewart-Warner speedometers or Load Indicators used on Schwinn Airdyne AD-3 exercisers. It does not fit the later AD-4, which used a digital readout. It is not correct for Schwinn Exerciser models XR-4 through XR-8. The two drive arms have a 3 1/8" (80mm) span, each extending 1 9/16" from the center of the axle hole. The axle hole in the center is 7/16" diameter.

I'm also including a complete new installation hardware kit, consisting of:

  • One 3/8" axle bushing (black), Schwinn 08 487, in case you cannot extract the axle bushing from your old drive hub
  • Two installation washers, Schwinn 39 601, optional, in case any shimming or alignment adjustments need to be made
  • One foam dust ring seal

This drive is in clean New Old Stock condition and full working order. I packed it with some fresh grease, and it turns smoothly. The drive arms have a 3 1/8" (80mm) span, each extending 1 9/16" from the center. The axle hole in the center is 7/16" diameter.

  • This is not for Huret speedometers. This is a Huret part for driving a Stewart-Warner Airdyne speedometer ("Load Indicator").
