The Function of Water Pump
Liquid cooled assist: Since 2014, Harley has introduced Twin Cooled on
some Touring models, such as the Great Glide ™ Technology, namely
air-cooled+liquid cooled dual cooling system. The water pump is
responsible for circulating the coolant to the engine cylinder head,
reducing the temperature in high-temperature areas, and improving heat
dissipation efficiency.
Stable engine temperature: Especially in
long-distance cycling or high-temperature environments, liquid cooling
systems can effectively reduce thermal decay and maintain stable power
output.
Design Characteristics of Water Pump
Integrated
design: The water pump is usually installed at the front of the engine,
connected to the coolant pipeline and radiator, and driven by the engine
through a belt or gear.
Durability: Using a metal shell (such as aluminum alloy) and sealed bearings to withstand high speeds and long-term use.
Maintenance requirement: Some users have reported that early models may
have issues with aging sealing rings causing coolant leakage, and
regular inspections are needed.
Advantages of Liquid Cooling System (compared to pure air cooling)
Efficient heat dissipation: The liquid cooling system targets local
cooling of the cylinder head, compensating for the shortcomings of
traditional air-cooled engines under high temperature conditions.
Reduce noise: Circulating coolant helps reduce engine operating noise.
Emission compliance: Better temperature control helps meet stricter environmental regulations such as EURO 4.
