This sale is for an edition entitled “Galileo’s Daughter,” subtitled “A Drama of Science, Faith and Love,” by Dava Sobel, with illustrations.

 

It was published by Fourth Estate Limited, of London, is the 2000 FIRST PRINTING in this form (paperback, formerly published in hardback in 1999), with the publisher’s print code “1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2”.

 

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was the foremost scientist of his day; the man Albert Einstein was to call ‘the father of modern physics – indeed of modern science altogether’.

 

Inspired by her long fascination with Galileo, and by the remarkable surviving letters of his daughter, which she has translated into English for the first time, the author has written a book that brings Galileo to life as never before.

 

The book measures 7.75 inches x 5 inches x 1.1 inches and has 429 pages (including illustrations). 

 

The book is in good used but internally neat condition for a softback of its age, with wear to the corners and a little foxing to the rims. There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.  The binding is used but good with light creasing along the spine and no loose or missing pages.

 

A good reading copy of this illustrated edition.

Unwinsbooks have held down shipping prices from 2013-2020 in spite of small increases in postage costs.  However, Royal Mail Prices dramatically changed on 1 July 2020, as a result of exceptional cost increases outside of their control, so we are reluctantly having to pass on pricing increases for parcels being sent overseas (primarily USA, New Zealand, Australia and the Rest of the World). 

 

These costs are a direct result of: 

 

• An increase of more than 100% in the fees the US Postal Service (USPS) charges for the delivery of international mail.

 

• Securing air freight at inflated market costs due to a 95% reduction in air passenger flights globally. This has not affected domestic or postage within the EU.

If the Royal Mail reduce their charges in the future (in particular what they term “Temporary Air Carrier Supplement Pricing”) unwinsbooks will reduce the international costs accordingly.
