Definitions:
1-Piece: The base is a single unit that bridges from the
front of the receiver (ring portion) to the rear (behind the ejection
port). Often referred to as a Redfield
Junior (Jr) style.
Leupold style STD/Standard mounts: The forward base section accepts a dovetail
style ring, which inserts and twists into place, locking it solidly into
position, while the rear ring is secured by windage adjustment screws, which
clamp the base of the ring on the rear base section. Redfield calls this mounting system
STReamline. THIS IS THE TYPE OF RINGS
THAT THE LISTED BASES FIT
The listed bases will NOT fit the
following:
Standard
Dovetail style mounts are meant to attach to the
integral dovetail grooves machined into the top receiver of some firearms
(mostly air guns and .22 caliber).
Weaver-style
mounts predate Picatinny rails.
Weaver mounting rails have slots that are .180” wide and do not
necessarily have a consistent spacing between the grooves. Picatinny slots are .206” wide with a center-to-center
groove width of .394”. Picatinny
accessories will not fit on a Weaver rail, but Weaver accessories will fit on a
Picatinny rail.
Dual Dovetail style mounts are meant to pair up with Dual Dovetail rings, which twist and lock into place in the base (either a 1-piece or 2-piece base). Both the front and rear rings have the same oval style base (as opposed to STD mounts, which have a front ring with a similar dovetail bottom, but the rear ring has a different clamp base).
Redfield Frontier Groove rings: Each Frontier base has a built-in top groove
and two rectangular raised features. The
Redfield Frontier rings have a side thumbwheel that is used to clamp the rings
onto the groove of the base. The base of
the rings therefore straddle the rectangular features on the base and the cross
screw goes in between the rectangular features (sort of like a Picatinny
rail). Redfield Frontier Groove rings
are needed to fit on Redfield Frontier bases.
Quick Release style mounts: Leupold style bases that have a round hole for
each ring and a lever on the side that locks in the ring. The Leupold style Quick Release rings
have round slotted projections of the bottoms which fit through the round base
holes and lock into place with the quick release lever. Not to be confused with Weaver style Quick
Release rings (which have a cross clamp base with a knurled thumb screw
that can be quickly unscrewed).
Redfield Swing-Over Rings: Similar to Weaver pivot rings but not
necessarily compatible with Weaver pivot bases, one side of the base of the
rings is held by a pivot point on the scope base, the other side of the base of
the rings snaps over the edge of the scope base with a spring retainer,
therefore, the scope can be tipped off to the side on the pivot points to use
the iron sights when needed, previously called Quick-Switch by Redfield.
