Il permet à la moto de glisser sur les troncs et les rochers. Sans le Link Guard, la chape d'amortisseur s'accroche aux troncs d'arbre et arrête le vélo ou projette le cycliste vers l'avant. Comme la chape et la tringlerie s'étendent bien en dessous du bras oscillant, elles sont très susceptibles de subir des dommages coûteux.
