Build a crystal radio receiver using a point contact diode.

These are vintage point contact germanium diodes 

made by ITT.  They work great in crystal radio receivers.  

The point contact is clearly visible through the glass 

(use a microscope or magnifying glass to see).  

These are high quality crystal diodes with a gold wire 

making the contact.  They are rare - point contact germanium 

diodes by ITT have not been made in decades.  

Newer germanium diodes are typically not made with a gold 

wire point contact, and are made with less refined germanium.

Most standard diodes (including common silicon types) 

do not work well as a crystal detector.  The best are point 

contact germanium with a low forward voltage.  These 

diodes are guaranteed to work as crystal radio detectors.
