Old antique salt glazed stoneware storage jar - used to store the likes of butter/ lard etc and were covered with paper/ cotton over the top. This is the reason for the thick rim.

Could now be used to house kitchen utensils or to be used as a plant pot

Good overall condition with wear and marks consistent with age and use - there are some “nibbles” to the inside of the rim and pitting to the glaze as photographed
