Die Geschichte des Widerstands der Studentengruppe um die Geschwister Sophie und Hans Scholl gegen das Nazi-Regime: 1942 tauchen erste Flugblätter gegen Hitler an der Universität München auf. Hans und Sophie studieren beide an dieser Universität, und Sophie entdeckt durch Zufall, dass ihr Bruder mit drei anderen Freunden der Initiator der Aktion ist. Aus Angst versucht sie zunächst, ihren Bruder von den Aktionen abzubringen, doch dieser überzeugt sie, selbst Teil des Widerstands zu werden. In mehreren Städten verteilen sie nun ihre Flugblätter, weshalb die Gestapo von einer großen Organisation ausgeht. Durch die Verbindung zu anderen Widerstandsgruppen wird die Arbeit von Hans, Sophie und ihrer kleinen Freundesgruppe immer gefährlicher, bis sie schließlich vom Hausmeister der Münchner Universität denunziert werden. 

This film tells the story of the resistance group set up by the siblings Sophie and Hans Scholl against the Nazi regime.  In 1942, the first leaflets against Hitler appear in the University of Munich.  Hans and Sophie both study at this university; and Sophie only finds out by chance, that her brother and three of his friends are behind the distribution of the leaflets.  At first, out of fear, she tries to talk her brother out of doing this.  But before long, she's determined to take part in their work.  Their leaflets end up being distributed in a number of cities, which leads the Gestapo to intensify their hunt for them.  With the expansion of their work to include other resistance organizations, Hans, Sophie and the rest of their colleagues are exposed to more and more danger until, finally, a janitor at the university denounces them.
