This is a very nice New England Style, hand turned Antique Walnut Wood Mortar and Pestle.  The mortar and pestle both show turning marks and points consistent with late 1700's to early 1800's manufacture.  The Bowl is hand cut, 7 1/2" tall by 4 1/2 in diameter at base up to 4 3/4 in in diamater at top.  It is footed, with the bowl depth being 3 3/14" and internal diamater of 3 3/4". Bowl has a single crack going down one side top to bottom and penetrating the outer wall, and 1/3 of the base, appears to have been filled / repaired with wood glue at one time. Piece is stable and shows no signs of splitting.  Shaft is 10" long with a diameter of 2 3/8 at base tapering to 2", having a 3" handle and 1" ball cap (all being one piece). Both pieces show normal wear and tear from a lifetime of use.  This came from a local Bowling Green Kentucky pharmacy, where it was part of a collection of pharmacy pieces mostly dating between 1890 and 1920, this piece being an exception as it is much older.
