The structure has 12 windows and a doorway. The steel roof is weather-worn but boldly hosts the Sooty’s logo. Coal soot gives the shack a rather down-and-dirty look, but it still stands proud!

Two miners chat nearby, and piles of coal and oil cans dot the yard and add to the rustic look. A gray steel sheer angles up to the top platform of the sheave wheel housing. In a shaft mine, rotating wheels are used to move carriers of coal to the surface and to transport miners up and down the shaft.

Miners are on the first and second platforms, inspecting the conveyor. Look closely inside the shaft and you’ll spot the wheels rotating and a conveyor belt up, over the axle, and back down to the mine.
