This is a handcrafted Kyo-yaki (Kiyomizu-yaki) "Aka-nou Karakusa" (Red Peony & Arabesque) Lidded Teacup (Small size) by Ichiraku Yamamoto, a renowned ceramic artist from Kyoto.
📸 Note: The images show multiple cups, but this listing is for one (1) single teacup with a lid.
This elegant lidded teacup features a rich red Aka-e (red painting) design, a color associated with good fortune and prosperity. The lush green leaves contrast beautifully with the deep red patterns, adding a fresh and vibrant touch.
The intricate hand-carved texture, a signature of Ichiraku Kiln, is meticulously enhanced by bold Aka-e detailing. The peony (symbolizing wealth and honor) and arabesque vines (representing vitality and longevity) are classic motifs in traditional Kyo-yaki ceramics.
Even the rim of the teacup is adorned with a meticulously hand-painted Shozui (祥瑞) pattern, a hallmark of authentic Kiyomizu-yaki craftsmanship. The textured carvings also provide a natural anti-slip grip, blending beauty with functionality.
With its timeless red design, this exquisite teacup can be cherished across all seasons and generations. The craftsmanship and dedication of the artisan shine through, making it a true masterpiece.

The first-generation Ichiraku trained for 25 years under Kazutou Kiyokawa, later establishing his own kiln in Gojozaka, Kyoto. He specialized in carved ceramics with bold Shozui (Chinese-style blue-and-white) and Aka-e (red-painted) designs, creating a powerful and distinctive style. He also mastered five-color (gosai) decorative techniques, showcasing a wide artistic range.
The second-generation Ichiraku, after ten years of training, inherited the Ichiraku Kiln in 1990. He continues to focus on functional yet artistic Kyo-yaki ceramics, particularly teacups and sakeware, while preserving and refining the intricately carved blue-and-white and red-painted styles of his predecessor.
The Aka-nou Karakusa Lidded Teacup by Ichiraku Kiln is a perfect blend of beauty, tradition, and craftsmanship, making it a timeless Kyoto masterpiece.
