An original, antique, copper-engraved map of the eastern hemisphere titled 'Climats Selon Les Ancients' with different zones 1-9 to illustrate ancient beliefs about world climate. It was published in volume 1 of Alain Manesson Mallet's 'Description de L'Univers', in Paris in 1683 (1st edition).

The image is printed on good quality hand-laid paper with the printed area measuring approximately 99mm x 141mm with good sized margins beyond, French text verso as published.

Condition report: Very good condition; light age toning; French text verso. Good, clear image printed on hand laid paper. Some marginal staining / handling marks. One or two small, faint age spots / handling marks to the printed area. Rough left edge of the sheet with occasional small nicks where it was originally bound into the source publication. Very minor almost invisible pin-sized holes to the bottom margin not affecting the image. Please study the photographs carefully to fully appreciate the condition.

Authenticity: this is an authentic item, published at the date stated in the title and accompanying description. Where an exact date is not known, the item is dated as circa (c.), e.g. c.1650. This indicates that it may have been printed/published a few years either side of the specified year.
