Vintage, Arts & Crafts style, Schlage hammered brass Door Knob Back Plate model A-106 1/2. This charming, scroll-cut design was developed for the California "storybook" and revival houses of the 1930s and 1940s. Schlage, a long time San Francisco-based lock manufacturer was established in 1920, leading the industry with its unique, patented bored cylindrical lock door locking mechanisms which made installations of door locks considerably easier than standard mortise installations. Decorative trims made their hardware options attractive as well as highly functional. Schlage, now headquartered in Colorado, is owned by Universal Paragon Corporation and continues to provide locking mechanisms, including contemporary electronic mechanisms and systems. This back plate measures 13" high and 3" wide and is 1/8" thick. The door knob hole measures 2 1/2" in diameter. This plate is in very good condition, as it was never used, salvaged from an attic of a 1938 house. It is tarnished to a dark grey as shown but shows traces of its original brass finish on the back. A nice piece of vintage hardware for a restoration project or to add vintage flair to a newer project.
