This is a fine antique 19th century alabaster carved sculpture of a girl writing the ABC's. The sculpture is 8.5 inches tall and 5 inches long, with a width of 6 inches. It features a classical and realistic style, with figures of women, children, and infants. The sculpture is an original and one of a kind, handmade piece, carved using a production technique of carving. It was produced during the time period of 1850-1899 and is a bust format sculpture. This sculpture is analogous to that of Adolfo Cipriani circa 1880-1930. Many distinct features are synonymous to the was he sculpted. I am unsure of artist. Only speculation. Few minor chips throughout. One larger chip to bottom of book. It appears that the base has been reattached at some point with glue. Otherwise the piece is exquisite. See photos for exact condition and if you can help to identify this piece I would welcome it.
