A luxurious book commissioned by the editor of The Century Magazine, who brought together two Edwardian luminaries by asking Edith Wharton to write descriptive text to accompany Maxfield Parrish's watercolors. Wharton took her task seriously and included a bibliography, index, and capsule biographies of 55 historical architects and landscape gardeners.
