Letter typed on October 5, 1939 by Gene Autry regarding an article written about him in the Saturday Evening Post by renowned Pulitzer Prize winning New York City journalist Alva Johnston (1888-1950).  Johnston worked as a writer for the New York Times, New York Herald, New Yorker and the Saturday Evening Post.  After mainly writing about New York and New Yorkers, Johnston began writing extensively about Hollywood personalities.  In 1923, Johnston was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for reporting for a series of articles on a convention of the American Association for the advancement of Science. 

This letter by Autry is from an archive of material which descended from Alva Johnston to his granddaughter. 

An original of the article titled "TENOR ON HORSEBACK" by Alva Johnston from the September 2, 1939 issue of the Saturday Evening Post will be included with the letter. 

The letter which is typed and signed in ink on a sheet of Autry's ivory colored stationery with pictorial letterhead is in excellent over-all condition with typical fold creases.
