Duolian Resonator Guitar - Steel Body with Triolian Finish
In 1928 National built a wood body three cone(tri-cone) resonator and named it the 'Triolian'; it was never made in great numbers because production costs were too high and it was discontinued in 1929 when a cheaper single cone metal body instrument, painted to look like wood, replaced it. That guitar still retained the 'Triolian' name but was essentially the same as later 'Duolian' models which were finished in 'Duco' lacquer of differing designs, the 'Triolian' name being reserved for any instrument whose body was finished to resemble wood.
This guitar is our tribute to the original National single cone Triolian, it is a steel body resonator finished in a wood tone lacquer. The solid mahogany neck features a vintage style slotted machine head, a bound 'antique' walnut fretboard (12 frets to the body), and 1930s style tuning machines.
As with all of our resonators, it has undergone a pro setup in our workshop and is fitted with 16-56 gauge phosphor bronze resonator strings. The action is set at 3mm at the 12th fret and in combination with the wider neck(47mm at the nut) the result is a guitar that slide players and finger pickers alike will love.
