A native of Cananea, Mexico, Aurelio Rodriguez Ituarte, Jr. was signed as an undrafted free agent by the California Angels in 1966, after being voted Rookie of the Year in the Mexican League, and reached the Major Leagues with the Angels in 1967.
Rodriguez subsequently played Third Base for the Washington Senators, Detroit Tigers (1971-1979), San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. Following his retirement as a player in 1983, he Managed successfully in the Mexican League, as well as in the Minor League systems of the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks. He was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. Known for his powerful throwing arm, Aurelio Rodriguez is considered to have been one of the outstanding Third Basemen of his generation.
