Cool book for anyone interested in the early settler history of the Great Lakes as it has biographical sketches of the settlers themselves, their families and their lives. Seems to be mostly Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin but obviously the lakes were an interconnected waterway that transited people and goods between/through all the lakes from iron mines and grain farms to the North and West and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean so these folks lives often touch other places/lakes as well. 

I've had several copies of this over the years as I spend a lot of time on/around the lakes and I personally collect Great Lakes and fur trade history and this is the nicest copy I have gotten my hands on. Midway has a comparable copy for $199.
