the 1850 edition of "The Original." [yes, with a period] by Thomas Walker, a barrister/magistrate working and living in London in the 1830s.
1/4 leather binding, with marbleized cover and inside front/back pages. top of textblock is gilded. no illustrations.
this is the full collection of his periodicals, which were really just him publishing his opinions and occasionally experiences, with the "the art of digestion", throwing dinner parties, his recommendations as to how you can be just as incredibly healthy and fit as him, dismissing all paupers as lazy good-for-nothings, and his traveling through Europe as his favorite topics, although there's other subjects he talks about (see the table of contents in the pics).
definitely comes across as a narcissist throughout, but its an interesting insight into daily London life.
wear to covers, crack forming between front cover and spine, although it is still holding tight.
a synopsis/review, written in 1907 from a previous owner, inside.
a few pen marks inside.
textblock clean and tight.
see pics for better idea of condition.
book is about 7 x 5 x 1".
