During World War II Detroit was dubbed the "Arsenal of Democracy,"  The Motor City quickly sifted its auto production plants to factories that made tanks, planes, munitions, etc.   This production boom brought an influx of workers, significantly boosting Detroit's population and economy, solidifying its role as a vital supplier for the Allies.
