Here is a piece of history from the Victorian! Most people today do not realize that not only were umbrellas and parasols design to protect humans from the sun, they were primarily purposely made as walking sticks. This explains why yesteryear's umbrellas were long and sleek while contemporary models have shrunken into compact purse-size accessories.
This particular walking stick/umbrella is being sold largely based upon its gorgeous and marked sterling silver frame and carved Ebony wood handle. The fabric portion of the umbrella is in fair condition with some tearing. One or more ribs have malfunctioned and we are disclosing this information. The fastening strap is not functionable. However, albeit this item has some issues with the umbrella portion, these issues could be remedied with the addition of new fabric and a bit of TLC.
On the other hand, if you are seeking a walking stick primarily for your collection and it is not likely you will be caught in the sun or a rainstorm, this is a perfect specimen for you and the price is sweet due to these issues.
