A rare mystery clock, attributed to famous French magician and mechanic, Jean Robert-Houdin. This total mechanical clock has a very noticeable large square glass dial, with 2 hands pointing to the time with Roman numerals. The glass dial is completely see through with no visible mechanism of any kind, yet the hands correctly indicate the current time. The glass dial is securely housed by an ornate gilt frame and supported by a post connected to the lower base. The 8 day time movement is located inside the wood base. Without revealing the mystery behind how this clock works, I will stop the basic description here. Lastly, this clock stands 13" tall and its base measures 7-3/4" wide and 5-3/8" deep. Its age is estimated to be around 1890's to 1900's. This lot comes with double end winding key for spring winding and time setting. The clock is in good working order with a recently replaced balance wheel platform. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
