A locking nut is necessary when using the Floyd Rose Gotoh GE1996T tremolo.

Before tuning the guitar, release the lock on the locking nut. After precise tuning with the tuning machines at the head of the guitar, lock the locking nut. Thanks to the double locking at the zero fret and at the bridge, your guitar will stay in tune even when using the tremolo arm.
