Hoang Trong Tien: Born in 1958, Tien began painting in 1975. Prior to beginning his career in painting, Tien taught chemistry. He was an in-house artist for Central Vietnam Cinematic Company from 1978 until 1981. In 1979, Tien directed the Hoi An training program for the Young Artists’ International Competition.

Tien’s work is as unique and cheerful as his personality. He greets visitors enthusiastically and will spend endless time sharing his knowledge and wisdom. Tien incorporates varied use of his hand, knuckles, fingers, and nails to create his highly individualized style, which facilitates his use of light reflection and multiple contrasting stokes. It is always true that art should be seen in person to be appreciated – and is especially true for Tien’s pieces. Photography just does not do his work justice.
