19th Century Original Oil Painting - Portrait by American Artist James Poindexter

"James Thomas Poindexter was born in 1832 in Christian County, Kentucky, and was married at the age of twenty. He and his wife relocated to Evansville, Indiana, where he launched his professional career. Although Poindexter spent a brief period in New Orleans and Granada, the majority of his active career was spent fulfilling commissions in Kentucky and Indiana, where Evansville is a bordering town; he died in Eddyville, Kentucky, in 1891. " as stated by Invaluable Auctions and other internet resources.

There is no date on this portrait, but it is safe to say that it was after 1850 and before 1891 when he died. I was hoping to find the subject, but have not had any luck yet on that search. I found a 1953 portrait of a Iredell Phillips Davie (1846-1907), part of the prominent Davie family of Christian County, Kentucky. Her father was Winston Jones Davie, the first Commissioner of Agriculture in the State of Kentucky, appointed by Governor James B. McCreary, and was also the president of the Southern Bank of Tennessee.  The man in this portrait kind of resembles her ... Poindexter painted the whole family.  I can't find a picture to confirm or deny it, but it does illustrate that he painted some very important and affluent people of the era.

Painting is in excellent condition. No repairs needed. The frame has a little chipping in the lower left seam and a tiny ding along the edge.  See pictures. Ask questions before bidding. Additional photos available upon request. Shipping charges include insurance, personal delivery may be available in lower eastern states. Pick up can be arranged as well.  This is a great museum quality piece.

I have reduced this painting by 40%. The price is now $3200..00 At this price it become a very good investment opportunity
